Florida Flood Awareness Week: March 8-14

Florida is prone to flooding and it is important for property owners to know their level of flood risk. Did you know that one inch of flood water can cost up to $25,000 in property damages? Florida Flood Awareness Week encourages property owners to learn their level of risk using free tools that can be accessed online at www.floodsmart.gov. The National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) is managed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and makes flood insurance available to anyone living in one of the 23,000 participating NFIP communities. Flood insurance is not included in a normal property insurance policy. However, it is available to everyone, whether you rent, own, or operate a business. In addition to purchasing flood insurance, owners or renters can take other measures to mitigate potential flood damage such as installing flood vents, utilizing flood resistant building materials, and elevating building utilities.

Our team of Certified Floodplain Managers and coastal engineers are routinely involved in FEMA flood mapping, flood map revisions, and the development of design and planning solutions to mitigate potential flood damage. Our goal is to help clients make the best financial and operational decisions relative to flood risk for a project.
