More about the Derecktor Shipyard Travel Lift Pier Extension project
Cummins Cederberg provided marine engineering and environmental consulting services for Derecktor Shipyards at their Dania Beach facility, located just south of Port Everglades.
To make room for larger vessels, the 900-ton travel lift pier was extended towards the channel. Marine engineering services were led by Cummins Cederberg for the design of the extension, as well as construction inspections, and managing the bid process. The shipyard can now fully utilize the lifting capacity of the existing hoist and permit vessels up to 220 feet in length overall (LOA) to be routinely hauled ashore.
“The expansion allows for a greater number of the large yachts frequenting Port Everglades to use the shipyard and provides another hauling option for the South Florida market,” James Brewer, Director of Business Development said.
This process required environmental permits from local, state, and federal regulatory agencies as well as strategic designing to be able to obtain their approval, both of which are included in this scope of work.
