More about the Bahia Honda Park Beach Renourishment project
Cummins Cederberg provided coastal engineering and environmental consulting services for the Bahia Honda State Park Beach Renourishment project. The project restored approximately 3,800 LF of sandy shoreline and dune plantings. The additional sand, dune plantings, and engineered beach design will improve the area’s resilience during future storm events and increase recreational space for the public.
Field investigations included topographic and bathymetric surveys covering the project footprint. Surveys extended upland to support sand placement within the existing beach system. Survey transects were spaced approximately every 100 feet along the shoreline. Environmental permitting was successfully completed, with Cummins Cederberg preparing and processing applications for both state and federal authorizations. The firm secured a Coastal Construction Control Line (CCCL) permit from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) and obtained exemptions for headland rehabilitation. Federal permits were verified through the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The team managed communications with regulatory agencies, responded to Requests for Additional Information (RAIs), and ensured timely issuance of all necessary permits. Engineering designs were finalized, including construction documents for beach nourishment and headland restoration.
Construction support services were carried out through all phases—bidding, preconstruction, coordination, milestone-based administration (25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% completion), project closeout, reporting, certification, and a quality control survey. Cummins Cederberg conducted site visits, reviewed contractor data, and ensured compliance with permit conditions. Quarterly coordination meetings and, progress updates were also completed.
