More about the Reefline project
The Reefline is an offshore snorkel trail located along Miami Beach, consisting of a series of artist-designed, scientifically informed artificial reef modules for public access and marine habitat enhancement. Cummins Cederberg provided environmental, permitting, coastal engineering, and construction administration services for the project.
Project support included bathymetric surveying, sediment probing, and marine benthic assessments to inform design and regulatory permitting. Based on these data and agency coordination, Cummins Cederberg performed coastal engineering analyses and developed design criteria to guide artists and manufacturers in the fabrication of reef modules.
The firm secured permits from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Florida Department of Environmental Protection, and Miami-Dade County Division of Environmental Resources Management for Phase 1, which included deployment of 22 concrete reef modules. Following construction of Phase 1, the project was awarded $5 million through the Miami Beach GO Bond, with Cummins Cederberg supporting ongoing grant management efforts.
